I have been reading more lately about the impact of the modern diet on our overall health and quality of life. It has been a wake up call. As a 25-year-old woman who recently graduated from college with my MBA, I noticed that while I was in grad school, things started to change in my life. My stamina wasn’t what it once was. I used to run every morning for at least three miles. I started noticing that somehow, my run turned into a walk, and my walk lasted only about a mile or so. And then I just stopped walking most mornings. I’d spend most mornings curled up on the couch watching the news and drinking my morning pot of coffee, eating a donut or a quick pastry. I started sitting on the couch more often at night, too, and eating take out, pizza or whatever I could throw together in a pinch. Because my life was so chaotic with exams and study group meetings and working to supplement my income so I didn’t have to entirely rely on student loans, I gained 20 pounds. After graduation, I was job hunting and noticed that my suits all fit tight. It was then I realized I had a problem and I needed to do something about it.
I turned to the Internet and searched for ways to lose weight and improve the quality of my health. I really wanted to start running again. It is an activity have enjoyed since middle school. I used to be an avid cross-country runner and distance runner on the track team. I even lettered in both.
